Sen. Jack Walsh selected for national emerging leaders conference
DOVER – Senate President Pro Tempore David McBride, D-Hawks Nest, has nominated Sen. Jack Walsh, D-Stanton, to represent Delaware in the National Conference for State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Symposium for Emerging Leaders.
The symposium, which will be held in San Jose, is designed for state legislators who demonstrate exceptional leadership ability and show potential to become leaders in their home legislatures. Nominees from around the country will spend three days absorbing and exchanging ideas with current and past state lawmakers on legislative leadership.
“I am honored to be selected for this conference and for the opportunity to become a better leader,” said Sen. Walsh. “Delaware has a lot to teach other states, and a lot to learn. My focus in the Senate has been serving my constituents and advocating for good public policy. The lessons I’ll pick up at this symposium will help me do both as we close out the year and head back into session.”
“Jack has shown great leadership in Dover over the past year,” said Sen. McBride. “His honesty, successful leadership on key legislative priorities, and passion for public service made him an obvious candidate for the NCSL’s Symposium. I’m looking forward to seeing what new ideas and approaches he will bring back.”
Elected in 2016, Sen. Walsh is among the newest members of the State Senate.
His first major bill, SB 59, ensured that Delaware nurses would be able to maintain membership in a multi-state compact designed to allow more efficient practice across state lines. The bill passed unanimously in the House and Senate and was signed by the Governor on June 30th. He was also the prime Senate sponsor for legislation creating the Delaware Prosperity Partnership and a number of bills aimed at improving the effectiveness of state agencies and boards.
Walsh serves on the Senate Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Committee, along with the Education, Labor, and Transportation Committees. He also chairs the Joint Legislative Oversight and Sunset Committee. He will attend the Symposium for Emerging Leaders from Nov. 8-10.
