Following recommendations made by the 2014 IEP Improvement Task Force, Senate Bill 33 of the 148th General Assembly required that public school districts and charters in Delaware work with parents annually to start parent councils for the parents of students with disabilities. These councils were designed to help guide parents through the IEP process, create communities for group support, and facilitate communication between districts and parents on special education issues.
On Wednesday, October 30, state officials who sponsored and supported the original bill will update reporters on implementation of the law and outline how parents can work to create councils at their schools.
