Sen. Harris McDowell’s statement on new
UD President Dennis Assanis
Sen. Harris McDowell, D-Wilmington North, a steadfast advocate for increased inclusion and diversity at the University of Delaware, issued the following statement in response to the University naming Dr. Dennis Assanis as its next president:
“I congratulate Dr. Assanis on being named the University of Delaware’s next president and I welcome him to our great state. Dr. Assanis brings an impressive background and resume to one of Delaware’s most important posts, but more than that, it seems he brings with him an appetite for reform. I was especially pleased to hear him say that making real strides to enhance diversity on campus would be his top priority and I look forward to engaging him, along with other stakeholders, on that issue.
“I’m also intrigued by his unique background working in the clean energy field and I’m hopeful that under his leadership, the University, through its Center for Energy & Environmental Policy, can play a leading role in the innovation and development of green technologies that can benefit our state and country in the years ahead.”
