Sen. Hansen presents tribute to Cedar Lane students
for animal rescue volunteer work
Sen. Stephanie Hansen honored Kim Thompson’s third grade class at Cedar Lane Elementary School Thursday morning for the students’ efforts to support to local animal rescue organizations.
Hansen presented a Senate tribute to Thompson and her students during class Thursday morning after they worked to organize a school-wide drive for pet food, toys and other supplies that were donated to Doggone Happy Animal Rescue and Faithful Friends.
In total, the school collected more than 26 boxes of items for the animal shelters, 10 more boxes than the school collected last year. During the year, the students received a visit from three dogs being sheltered at Doggone Happy Animal Rescue and another from Mary Korb, the mother of a Cedar Lane student, who brought therapy dog Gemma to visit the class.
“This was a tremendous community service project that Ms. Thompson and her students deserve an enormous amount of credit for spearheading,” Hansen said. “Thanks to Cedar Lane, there are a lot of animals in our state that will get the care they so desperately need as these shelters work to find them their forever homes. The compassion these kids will learn from this experience will transcend any subject matter and will last a lifetime.”
