Senate Labor Committee to hold public hearing  on Delaware prison working conditions

DOVER – Sen. Robert Marshall, Chair of the Delaware State Senate Labor Committee, has announced that the committee will hold a public hearing at Legislative Hall in Dover at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23.

The purpose of the hearing is to give present and former Delaware Dept. of Correction employees and other interested persons an opportunity to discuss working conditions in Delaware’s prisons.  The hearing will also provide an opportunity to discuss how working conditions in the prisons may be improved going forward.

The hearing is not being held to discuss the tragic February 1-2 incident at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.  The details of that event are presently under investigation by law enforcement agencies and will also be the subject of a special investigation announced this week by Governor John Carney to review the facts and produce recommendations to prevent similar incidents moving forward.

Members of the Labor Committee include Sens. Nicole Poore, John W. Walsh, III, Colin R. J. Bonini, Anthony Delcollo and Robert Marshall, Chair.

WHEN:           1 p.m., Thursday, February 23
WHERE:         Senate Chamber
                        Legislative Hall
