Statement of Senate President Pro Tem David McBride On Attorney General Denn’s announcement

Since beginning his career providing volunteer legal services in church basements, Matt Denn has distinguished himself as a tireless advocate for justice, in every sense of the word. I speak for my colleagues in the Senate, and people across the state, when I say how sad I am to hear that he won’t be seeking re-election. His time as attorney general has been marked both by moral clarity and a constant focus on the people he serves—qualities that I hope we’ll also see in his successor.

Matt’s public life has been dedicated to making Delawareans—especially our young people—safer and happier, and I’m confident that he’ll continue to devote his private life to the most vulnerable members of our society. And, on a personal level, I’m glad for him and his family; particularly his sons, Adam and Zach, who will get to spend more time with their dad at a critical time in their lives.

Matt stepped into public service for the right reasons. And, he’s stepping away for the right reasons. I wish him Godspeed in whatever new endeavor he undertakes, but it’s also my hope that we haven’t seen the last of him.
