DOVER – Senate Majority Leader Nicole Poore, D-New Castle, released the following statement regarding the failure of HB 3 in the Senate on Wednesday:
“Hundreds of federal workers in Delaware are facing difficult if not impossible decisions this week. In New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, they are looking to their state leaders for some sort of solution. Tough times call for a team effort, and it was encouraging to see HB 3 pass the House unanimously on Tuesday. That’s precisely why it was so disappointing to watch this urgently needed bill fail today. Over 500 federal employees in Delaware were fair to expect similar bipartisanship in the Senate today and they didn’t get it. Let’s be clear about what House Bill 3 would have done. Through a simple, low-interest, temporary loan program – established through partnerships with financial institutions and nonprofit organizations – it would have allowed federal workers to pay their bills for one more month. Rent, mortgage, groceries, insurance, you name it – this bill was a lifeline to Delaware families that are struggling and it is genuinely regrettable that we failed to pass it today.”
